a few weekends ago, we attended a fall barbecue thrown by my mom and willie. there were amazing quantities of delicious food, lots of good people and conversations, and paddle boats to have fun with on the lake – all which made for a fabulous fall afternoon.
there was so much good food that mike went crazy taking pictures of everything, producing some amazing shots that you’ll see in the slideshow above. the gorgeous picture below almost makes me think meat might taste good (it’s been over 17 years since i’ve had chicken, so i pretty much forget what it tastes like), and it’s possibly the only time that you’ll ever see a picture of meat on my blog!
excluding the tantalizing and packed dessert table, my favorite dish at the event was the homemade pizza.
my mom made the crusts from our family recipe that i used on my birthday, and used her own savory pizza sauce that beats anything you can buy in the store. this tomato sauce is a true testament to simple ingredients and sauces tasting better than complicated ones because they let the full flavors of the ingredients shine through. i’m including the pizza sauce recipe with her full permission and recommendation to make your own pizza sometime soon – it really warms up the house as you bake it on a fall evening. happy fall everyone!
